Why the 2022 Jeep Compass surpasses the 2022 Honda CR-V

The new 2022 Jeep Compass at Bedford Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram in Bedford, PA is an exceptionally good buy, out-performing even a popular model like the new 2022 Honda CR-V. The newest Jeep Compass has several valuable strengths when it comes to maneuverability and handling that the CR-V just doesn't match. And that's on nice, smooth pavement. When these vehicles go off-road, the poor Honda CR-V doesn't stand a chance.

Engines

Both the 2022 Jeep Compass and the 2022 Honda CR-V have four-cylinder gas engines and the power output is similar. The engine in the newest Jeep Compass, however, is larger: 2.4-liter for the Compass vs. only a 1.5-liter displacement for the CR-V. A bigger engine can have its advantages, as we're about to see.

Performance

In general, a bigger engine gives you better acceleration and more capability when it comes to towing. So with the larger power plant in the Jeep Compass, you'd expect it to give you superior performance numbers over the CR-V. Sure enough, the Jeep Compass tows up to 2,000 lb, while the Honda CR-V pulls only 1,500 lb.

The 2022 Jeep Compass has a special performance feature called Electronic Stability Control that can help you better control potentially risky trailer sway as you drive. The system in the new Jeep Compass not only detects trailer sway but helps keep your vehicle and the trailer traveling in a steadier way. It uses braking power to counteract trailer sway and reduce the chance of losing control of your trailer. The Honda CR-V doesn't offer it.

Interior

Both the new 2022 Jeep Compass and the 2022 Honda CR-V have generous amounts of interior space. Both offer similar headroom and legroom in both the front and back rows, and both offer seating for up to five. The newest Compass, however, features high seat bottoms in the back seats to support your passengers' legs more completely than in other vehicles, making even longer road trips more comfortable.

Technology

Inside the new 2022 Jeep Compass you'll be greeted by a standard 8.4-inch touch screen, while the Honda CR-V gives you either a tiny base 5.0-inch screen or, at best, a 7.0-inch screen.  In a new Jeep Compass you'll be surrounded by a six-speaker stereo and you can move up to a nine-speaker Alpine audio system. Honda also offers a nine-speaker system but its biggest 7-inch screen is dwarfed by Jeep's available 10.1-inch screen.

It's no wonder the editors at Car & Driver refer to the 2022 Honda CR-V's "frustrating infotainment system." Not only do the screen choices trend toward the miniscule end of the spectrum, but Honda makes its infotainment system exceptionally un-rewarding with its slow response times. Honda had a reputation for "user-friendly tech" in the past, but the new CR-V makes that description seem like it might be obsolete.

Safety

If you have a family, you'll find safety features in the new 2022 Jeep Compass to be reassuring while the safety tech in the new Honda CR-V might raise some concerns. For example, the newest Jeep Compass has what's called pre-crash tensioners. It means the front seatbelts tighten automatically when the safety system in the Compass perceives an impending crash. That improves passenger protection substantially. The CR-V doesn't even offer it.
